Wait! George Miller Wants to Make More 'Mad Max'; Has Two Stories

Phew! As we expected, the story from earlier in the week about George Miller not doing any more Mad Max movies was bogus. The quotes were real, but they were really shoddy quotes, from a rough interview. Which is what I was expecting considering it seemed ridiculous Miller would say outright he is done with Mad Max for good. Miller just earned an Oscar nomination this morning for Best Director of Mad Max: Fury Road, and the movie itself scored a Best Picture nomination. In a recent interview with The Wrap, Miller clarifies the situation and confirms that he's even considering two different sequel ideas coming up.

Here's the full quote from The Wrap regarding the previous news being untrue and Miller's future plans:

"That was a completely garbled interview. I was in New York and it was so noisy and the journalist was asking me questions on a red carpet at the National Board of Review," he said. "She completely got the wrong fragments of information that were just not true. I said no, [another 'Mad Max' movie] will not be next, and she took that to mean I never wanted to make another 'Mad Max.' It won’t necessarily be next, but I have two more stories."

That makes more sense. He may let someone else make the sequel, but he's not ruling out the possibility of making more Mad Max movies down the line. As of 2011, there were quotes from George Miller about a new Mad Max trilogy. During the release of Fury Road last year, Miller explained they'd written even more: "We've got one screenplay and a novella. It happened because with the delays [on Fury Road] and writing all the backstories, they just expanded." There have been rumors about the next film being called Mad Max: The Wasteland, and at one point there was a project called Mad Max: Furiosa in the works. Maybe they're going to split these two storylines? We'll see. For now, rest assured George Miller isn't done with Mad Max.
